An automotive service manager is responsible for overseeing the service department of an automotive dealer. They’re the liaison between the mechanic and the customer and consequently are responsible for creating and maintaining a loyal customer base and are also responsible for assuring the automotive dealer that the service department is operating efficiently and productively. This position is also typically responsible for obtaining sales and profit in the department and maintaining service records for all customers.
The service manager is also responsible for the safety concerns pertaining to the maintenance of all customer vehicles. This requires that they oversee all aspects of mechanical operations to assure that the service provided is at the highest level of quality. Every automobile serviced by the automotive department must be inspected by the automotive service manager or his representative prior to returning the automobile to the customer.
The automotive service manager needs to focus on all that is required of him at all times. They’re responsible for all aspects pertaining to service department personnel, including hiring and supervising. This includes maintaining all employee files and documenting any discrepancies and also being responsible for reviews and raise considerations.
The service manager ensures the dealer at the service department obtains the goals of the dealership as they pertain to the budget. In many cases, they might be expected to create and monitor a marketing plan that involves the creation of current and recurring business. For many automotive dealers service, customers typically consist of individuals who have purchased vehicles in the dealer. You might also be required to generate this information from outside the current clientele.
All vehicle manufacturers provide warranties on new cars. It is the responsibility of the automotive service manager to be up-to-date on all the information pertaining to warranties and provide this information to his staff. They have to also keep track of any recall that may have been set forth by the automotive manufacturer.
Typical service managers have a background in automotive repair and will most likely have worked for the dealer he’s now employed by. Some dealerships hire from outside of their service staff if it does not create a conflict between employees. No matter where they’ve gotten their training, it is necessary that this individual has years of experience as a mechanic. Usually it is desired that this experience is on the brand of cars the dealer carries.
Most dealers pay this position nicely. This might, in many cases, include a nice benefits package. Many service dealers are also provided with a demo vehicle. This position is typically very attractive to the mechanic who has worked for the dealer for a number of years.
The Automotive Service Management is the individual who is responsible for overseeing all operations of the automotive service department for a vehicle dealer.
